PERFORMANCE

1. PLEASE, TELL ME AND CRY – 2015

Please, tell me and cry is one of Denise’s performances created in 2015. Because she always had problems managing her emotions, she decided to focus her creative process on the act of crying. She asked different people to tell her their most intimate stories and when they started crying she captured the moment with her camera. As you can see, her feelings and the feelings of her audience merged and they created this beautiful piece of art.

PERFORMANCE: Experience ‘The Act Of Destruction’

Performance – The Act Of Destruction

2. THE ACT OF DESTRUCTION – Video

The performance called “The act of destruction” has two physical and psychological instances: firstly Denise destroys a television with a hammer creating emotions in the audience. In the second place, she asks the audience to take pictures with a Polaroid camera. Everyone takes a photo at different times. These photos are the emotions, and feelings of the people that show her desire to destroy.

In this performance, there is anger towards the media world. Television in this era is the PC, the newspaper, and public opinion:

“Television is ‘real’. It is immediate, it has a dimension. It tells you what to think and makes you feel it. It has to be right. It feels so right. It takes you to its conclusions so quickly that your mind doesn’t have time to protest: ‘What nonsense!

– Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

This performance is Denise’s desire to express herself. This performance is her desire to make people express themselves. In one act, The Act of Destruction.
